Nelly strives to be a trailblazer and to be the first to make his mark in every category such as being the first hip hop artist to blur the musical genres of Hip Hop and Country with the chart-topping hit Over and Over with Tim McGraw. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony is an American hip hop group composed of rappers Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone. The group was signed to fellow American rapper Eazy-E‘s Ruthless Records in late 1993, when they debuted with their EP Creepin on ah Come Up. The EP included their breakout hit single “Thuggish Ruggish Bone”. In 1995, the group released its second album E. 1999 Eternal, which included hits “1st of tha Month” and “East 1999”. Their hit song “Tha Crossroads”, a tribute to then-recently deceased mentor Eazy-E, won a Grammy Award in 1997.

Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966), better known by his stage name Too $hort, is an American rapper. A pioneer of West Coast hip hop, Shaw was among the first acts to receive recognition in the genre during the late 1980s. He is widely known for his most popular singles “Blow the Whistle” and “The Ghetto.” He is one of few acts to have worked with both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. during the height of their respective careers.

Shaw began recording in 1983, and cultivated a regional following with three independent projects tailored for his native Oakland. His fourth album, Born to Mack (1987) sold an estimated 50,000 units from Shaw’s car trunk, leading to a commercial re-issue by Jive Records the following year. His fifth album, Life Is… Too Short (1988) received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and became his first entry on the Billboard 200. His sixth album, Short Dog’s In The House (1990) peaked at number 20 on the chart while marking his first and highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 entry as a lead artist with its single, “The Ghetto.” His following four albums—Shorty the Pimp (1992), Get in Where You Fit In (1993), Cocktails (1995), and Gettin’ It (Album Number Ten) (1996)—each peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200 and received platinum certifications by the RIAA.

Katrina Laverne Kearse (née Taylor; born December 3), known professionally as Trina, is an American rapper. She rose to prominence in the late 1990s for her collaborations with Trick Daddy on the singles “Nann Nigga”, “Shut Up”, and “Take It to da House”. In 2000, she released her debut album Da Baddest Bitch. Afterwards, she made an appearance on the remix of “One Minute Man” by Missy Elliott and Ludacris. In 2002, she released the Kanye West-produced single “B R Right” featuring Ludacris, from her sophomore album Diamond Princess (2002).

Trina’s third album Glamorest Life (2005), spawned the hit single “Here We Go” featuring Kelly Rowland, which was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her follow-up album Still da Baddest (2008), peaked within the top ten on the Billboard 200, and reached number one on the US R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

She has been described by XXL as “the most consistent female rapper of all time”. In 2014, Trina was included in Billboard‘s list of the “31 Female Rappers Who Changed Hip-Hop”.

Hayley Williams of Paramore&rapper Eminem, and “Magic,” feat. One of the most thuggish rappers embraced by the mainstream, Trick Daddy broke out of the South in 2001 with “I’m a Thug” and established himself as an unlikely national superstar. Before his breakthrough, he scored a few regional hits. In particular, he became known for “Nann Nigga” and “Shut Up,” club anthems characterized by rousing beats and rowdy lyrics. When TrickDaddy finally broke into the mainstream with the appropriately titled “I’m a Thug,” it came as somewhat of a surprise. No one questioned his talent, but his image — a trademark omnipresent grimace, bald head, prickly whiskers, forearm tattoos, and gold grill — hardly matched that of other mainstream rappers. Thug or not, TrickDaddy became a national superstar. He collected numerous RIAA accolades, including a platinum certification for 2001’s Thugs Are Us, and hit the Top Ten of the Billboard R&B/hip-hop albums chart with seven consecutive releases through 2009’s Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug. The rapper wasn’t nearly as prolific the following decade but continued performing, releasing the occasional mixtape and EP while remaining sought for guest verses.

Shawn Maurice Mims (born March 22, 1981), known as Mims (Music Is My Savior), is an American rapper. Born and raised in New York City, he is best known for his 2006 commercial debut single “This Is Why I’m Hot”, which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following the success of his hit single, Mims’ debut album, Music Is My Savior, was released in March 2007.

His debut singles, “L.O.V.E/I Made a Vow” were released in 2000, under the temporary pseudonym Mr. Mims. In 2001, he was featured on a Canadian compilation entitled Private Party Collectors Edition Vol. 2, by Baby Blue Soundcrew. His guest appearance on the single “Love ‘Em All” alongside Choclair, steadily garnered the rapper some commercial attention in Canada. The music video was nominated for a 2001 MMVA award. Soon after his recognition in Canada, he would gain connections with Blackout Movement. After, he decided to drop the “Mr.” from his name and release 2 additional singles under the independent label Push Play Music: “Big-Man Lil-Man/P.I.M.P.” (2002) and “I Did You Wrong” (2003). The latter contained a production credit by from the team aforementioned Blackout Movement, who would also produce the rapper’s breakout single in 2006, “This Is Why I’m Hot.” This would not be enough to finalize a legitimate record deal for the artist. In 2006, he began to record tracks for Latin hip hop label Urban Box Office. He decided that it would be in his best interests to structure his own label situation. He would also create American King Music alongside a few business partners.
