Born and raised in Washington Heights, MIMS (Shawn Mims) was heavily influenced by the hip‑hop culture of nearby Harlem. After losing both parents at a young age, he focused on music, using the DJ equipment his mother gave him as inspiration to pursue a career.

His early work led to industry attention, and in 2006 he broke through independently with the hit single “This Is Why I’m Hot,” which earned major‑label backing and led to his debut album Music Is My Savior in 2007.

He is performing at Tacos and Tequila Festival 2026 on the following dates:

  • April 11 – Houston
  • May 9 – San Antonio
  • May 30 – Milwaukee
  • August 1 – Pittsburgh
